The National Uniform Billing Committee has approved the UB-04 form as the replacement for the UB-92. Submitters (hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, hospice, and other institutional claim submitters) can use the UB-04 beginning March 1, 2007. Starting May 23, 2007, all institutional paper claims must use the UB-04; the UB-92 will no longer be acceptable after this date.
Regarding the implementation of the new cms-1500; as of the May meeting with the NUCC, CMS announced the following:
The necessary systems changes required for CMS to accept the revised form will not occur with the October 1, 2006, release. This delay is a result of a cutback in contractor work hours by the agency. A new request is being submitted for the systems changes to occur with the January 1, 2007, release. CMS will know in July if this request has been accepted.
